IEC 60601-1-2:2014 applies to the basic safety and essential performance of Medical Equipment (ME) equipment and ME systems in the presence of electromagnetic disturbances and to electromagnetic disturbances emitted by me equipment and me systems. This collateral standard to IEC 60601-1 specifies general requirements and tests for basic safety and essential performance with regard to electromagnetic disturbances and for electromagnetic emissions of ME equipment and ME systems. They are in addition to the requirements of the general standard IEC 60601-1 and serve as the basis for particular standards. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition of IEC 60601-1-2, and constitutes a technical revision. The most significant changes with respect to the previous edition include the following modifications: specification of immunity test levels according to the environments of intended use, categorized according to locations that are harmonized with IEC 60601-1-11: the professional healthcare facility environment, the home healthcare environment and special environments;specification of tests and test levels to improve the safety of medical electrical equipment and medical electrical systems when portable RF communications equipment is used closer to the medical electrical equipment than was recommended based on the immunity test levels that were specified in the third edition; specification of immunity tests and immunity test levels according to the ports of the medical electrical equipment or medical electrical system; specification of immunity test levels based on the reasonably foreseeable maximum level of electromagnetic disturbances in the environments of intended use, resulting in some immunity test levels that are higher than in the previous edition; and better harmonization with the risk concepts of basic safety and essential performance, including deletion of the defined term "life-supporting". This new edition includes the following main additions: guidance for determination of immunity test levels for special environments; guidance for adjustment of immunity test levels when special considerations of mitigations or intended use are applicable; guidance on risk management for basic safety and essential performance with regard to electromagnetic disturbances; and guidance on identification of immunity pass/fail criteria |

CISPR 16-1-5:2003+A1:2012 is designated a basic standard which specifies the requirements for calibration test sites, used to perform antenna calibrations, as well as the test antenna characteristics, calibration site verification procedure and site compliance criteria. Further information on calibration site requirements, test antenna considerations and the theory of antennas and site attenuation is provided in informative annexes. Measurement instrumentation specifications are given in CISPR 16-1-1 and CISPR 16-1-4. Further information and background on uncertainties in general is given in CISPR 16-4-1, which may be helpful in establishing uncertainty estimates for the calibration processes of antennas. CISPR 16-1 has been reorganised into 5 parts, to accommodate growth and easier maintenance. This first edition of CISPR 16-1-5, together with CISPR 16-1-1, CISPR 16-1-2, CISPR 16-1-3 and CISPR 16-1-4, cancels and replaces the second edition of CISPR 16-1, published in 1999, amendment 1 (2002) and amendment 2 (2003). CISPR 16-4-2:2011 is a basic EMC publication. It specifies the method of applying Measurement Instrumentation Uncertainty (MIU) when determining compliance with CISPR disturbance limits. The material is also relevant to any EMC test when interpretation of the results and conclusions reached will be impacted by the uncertainty of the measurement instrumentation used during testing. This second edition includes significant technical additions about methods of conducted disturbance measurements on mains and communication ports and about methods of radiated disturbance measurements using a FAR in the ranges of 30 MHz to 1 000 MHz and of 1 GHz to 18 GHz. The annexes contain the background material used in providing the amount of MIU found in generating the CISPR values shown in the main document and hence provide valuable background material for those needing both initial and further information on MIU and how to take individual uncertainties in the measurement chain into account. The annexes, however, are not intended to be a tutorial or user manual or to be copied when making uncertainty calculations. For that purpose, the references shown in the bibliography, or other widely recognized documents, may be used. Measurement instrumentation specifications are given in the CISPR 16-1 series, while the methods of measurement are covered in the CISPR 16-2 series. Further information and background on CISPR and radio disturbances is given in CISPR 16-3. CISPR 25:2008 contains limits and procedures for the measurement of radio disturbances in the frequency range of 150 kHz to 2 500 MHz. The standard applies to any electronic/electrical component intended for use in vehicles, trailers and devices. Refer to International Telecommunications Union (ITU) publications for details of frequency allocations. The limits are intended to provide protection for receivers installed in a vehicle from disturbances produced by components/modules in the same vehicle. The method and limits for a complete vehicle are in Clause 5 and the methods and limits for components/modules are in Clause 6. Only a complete vehicle test can be used to determine the component compatibility with respect to a vehicle's limit. The receiver types to be protected are, for example, broadcast receivers (sound and television), land mobile radio, radio telephone, amateur, citizens' radio, Satellite Navigation (GPS, etc.) and Bluetooth. For the purpose of this standard, a vehicle is a machine, which is self-propelled. Vehicles include (but are not limited to) passenger cars, trucks, agricultural tractors and snowmobiles. Annex A provides guidance in determining whether this standard is applicable to particular equipment.The limits in this standard are recommended and subject to modification as agreed between the vehicle manufacturer and the component supplier. This standard is also intended to be applied by manufacturers and suppliers of components and equipment which are to be added and connected to the vehicle harness or to an on-board power connector after delivery of the vehicle. The following significant changes were made with respect to the previous edition:- addition of required measurements with both an average detector and a peak or quasi-peak detector;- addition of methods and limits for the protection of new analogue and digital radio services, which cover the frequency range up to 2 500 MHz;- addition of a new measurement method for components (stripline) as an informative Annex G;- addition of the contents of CISPR 21 as Annex H; CISPR 21 in its entirety now becomes obsolete;- deletion of narrowband / broadband determination;- deletion of the Annex on rod antenna characterisation (this is now covered by CISPR 16-1-4);- deletion of the Annex on characterisation of shielded enclosure (CISPR 25 will be amended when the CISPR/D / CISPR/A Joint Task Force on chamber validation finishes its work). The contents of the corrigendum of January 2009 have been included in this copy |

The limits in this International Standard are designed to provide protection for broadcast receivers in the frequency range of 30 MHz to 1 000 MHz when used in the residential environment. Compliance with this standard may not provide adequate protection for new types of radio transmissions or receivers used in the residential environment nearer than 10 m to the vehicle, boat or device. NOTE 1 Experience has shown that compliance with this standard may provide satisfactory protection for receivers of other types of transmissions when used in the residential environment, including radio transmissions in frequency ranges other than that specified |

This standard applies to the emission of electromagnetic energy which may cause interference to radio reception and which is emitted from: a) vehicles propelled by an internal combustion engine, electrical means or both (see 3.1); b) boats propelled by an internal combustion engine, electrical means or both (see 3.2). Boats are to be tested in the same manner as vehicles except where they have unique characteristics as explicitly stated in this standard; c) devices equipped with internal combustion engines or traction batteries (see 3.3). See Annex G for a flow chart to help determine the applicability of CISPR 12. This standard does not apply to aircrafts, household appliances, traction systems (railway, tramway and electric trolley bus), or to incomplete vehicles. In the case of a dual-mode trolley bus (e.g. propelled by power from either a.c./d.c. mains or an internal combustion engine), the internal combustion propulsion system shall be included, but the a.c./d.c. mains portion of the vehicle propulsion system shall be excluded from this standard. NOTE 2 Protection of receivers used on board the same vehicle as the disturbance source(s) are covered by CISPR 25. The measurement of electromagnetic disturbances while the vehicle is connected to power mains for charging is not covered in this standard. The user is referred to appropriate IEC and CISPR standards which define measurement techniques and limits for this condition. Annex H lists work being considered for future revisions |
